With winter finally at our doorstep it is time to run outside and enjoy some winter fun! I know, you are looking at me like I’m crazy but do not underestimate the cold weather. Winter is the optimal time for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding; but what about snowshoeing or ice climbing? It is not as crazy as you think and there are plenty of companies to help you get there.
Northeast Mountain Guides has locations throughout the US and offer ice climbing and snowshoeing for all skill levels. Offering many dates and locations, equipment needed, and with discounts to be found on Groupon and Living Social you are guaranteed to have a rockin’ time with their professional guides.
Larger outfitters, REI and EMS, also offer winter excursions. They provide professional guides and equipment to get you started. With locations through out the US you can find one near you or even try one of their international guide packages.
Things to keep in mind, while these guide companies provide the guide, gear and instruction; they do not offer winter clothes. That’s right, you still need to dress warm, layer up the correct way and wear proper outerwear. This will ensure your day outdoors will be an awesome day of adventure outdoors. No one likes cold toes and fingers!
Check with your local outfitter to see what they offer.
